Yaks

53 Yaks - 2140Kg

To get our equipment in Advanced Base Camp (ABC) we need a lot of Yaks. This are cow like animals that are well equiped for the rough Tibetan terrain.
Also in ABC we have a full kitchen, each member has their private tent and we need climbing equipment for the climb. We will stay in ABC for max three weeks, not at once, but during the whole expedition. Just imagine how much food & Fuel only that is.

Early in the morning 53 yaks arrived with their YakPa's (Yak-men) and started weighing all our loads. This is always a negotiation game, since a Yak can carry much more than the 40kg quoted by the CTMA. Also the YakPa always try to cheat the weighing to be able to sell more Yaks. I love this game and somehow I always manage to get a good deal (at least that is what I think). Then the next argument is witch Yakpa will take the odd size baggage..........the best thing is to have equal loads on both sides of the Yak, but some stuff is just heavy. (like a generator for example). Usually the older Yakpa's tell the younger ones what to do and the younger ones end up with a shitty load.

Two of our kitchenboys and four Sherpa went up with the Yaks to pre-set Interim and ABC for us. We will leave for interim tomorrow. All is well here and members are doing fine, we are ready to move up to "new" terrain!
